Marilena Lamp,


With 15 years playing and coaching experience, Marilena brings a desire to "pay forward"  the great coaching she's received.  As a four-year setter for Santa Clara University's Women's Club Team, Marilena lead her team to a 5th place finish at Club National Championships in 2007.  She has been Captain for each and every team on which she has played, and brings that same leadership skill to coaching. With several years club coaching experience in Southern California, Marilena is a great addition to our East Bay coaching staff!

Danielle Carter,

2016 Coach of the Year

With 10 years of combined coaching and playing experience, Danielle has been coaching for the past 2 years for both Livermore High School Boys and Girls teams, as well as for East Bay Volleyball Academy!  She has a true passion for teaching, and is currently studying in college to get her teaching credential!  Danielle was a standout Club and High Scholl Volleyball player at Livermore High School as a Setter and Outside Hitter, and wants nothing more than to help young athletes better themselves both on the court, as well as off!

Gary Reznick, Academy Director

Gary has been playing and teaching volleyball for over 30 years.  He has competed both at the NCAA Division 1 level, as well as Internationally.  As a player, he has been taught by some of the best teachers of the sport, and brings that experience to his craft and to his Camps, Clinics, and Teams.  Positive Coaching and Instilling Confidence in his players exemplify his approach.  Most important, as Academy Director, he ensures that each and every Coach and Trainer share his positive and encouraging energy when teaching.   

Allison Doerpinghaus, 


After a successful NCAA Division I volleyball career, Allison is entering her first season at East Bay Volleyball Academy with excitement and a desire to help her players learn and grow.  As a Middle Blocker, Allison enjoyed 2 years at Eastern Washington University, and 2 years at Houston Baptist University. She attributes her success to her youth coaches that were patient with her as she learned the game, which did not come easy for her, and wants to pay that gift forward to her athletes.  Hard work paid off for Allison, and East Bay is lucky to have her!           

Tracee Byrd

Boys 16-1s Head Coach

Tracee comes to East Bay with a wealth of playing and coaching experience!  After a career as a three sport Division 1 Athlete at Centenary College in Louisiana, Tracee went on to coach Division 1 Women’s Volleyball at Missisippi State, Sam Houston University, and Arizona State University.  Tracee’s greatest motivation for coaching is to help others strive for their greatest potential.  Entering her first season with EBVA, we are fortunate to have Tracee’s experience, commitment, and genuine caring for her athletes!  

Tea Hieta,

Boys 14-1s Head Coach

Combine over 30 years coaching and playing experience with 10 years on Finland's Jr. & Sr. National Teams, 120 caps for her country, a successful professional career in Europe, induction into BYU's Hall of Fame, two NCAA All-American honors, two WAC Player of the Year awards, 4 consecutive NCS titles coaching for De La Salle, several years of Club coaching experience, and a genuine love and respect for teaching the game of Volleyball to our youth, and you get Tea Hieta, humbly growing the game!      

Marissa Horstick


Marissa comes to East Bay Volleyball Academy having earned NCAA All-American honors at Washburn University as an Opposite. As the current JV coach for Amador Valley High School, as well as having coached club for several seasons in Kansas, her 12 years of playing and coaching experience will serve our players quite well!  When Marissa is not on the court, she is in the gym working as a certified fitness trainer, and will put those skills into action as a key fitness coach for all of our players for the upcoming club season!  

Julie Monette,

Strength & Nutrition

Julie has been an ISSA Certified Trainer for the past 5 years, and has also been an ISSA Certified Nutritionist for the past 2 years.  Her experience spans all types of athletes of all ages, from marathoners, to cyclists, to volleyball players, to fitness competitors.  Her main drive in working with kids is to impress upon them the importance proper nutrition has on performance, both in training, and in competition.  And, of course, Julie loves Volleyball, and actively competes in adult leagues and has coached at the youth levels.

Ray Montalvo,        


Ray has been involved with volleyball for more than 30 years. He is currently the Head Coach for the Dougherty Valley High School Boys Volleyball Team. As a steward for Youth Sports, Ray was pivotal in starting both the Volleyball and Water Polo programs upon Dougherty Valley High School first opening. In addition, Ray has coached both the boys and girls teams for Cal High in San Ramon, and also has more than 10 years Club coaching experience. Ray is both Impact Certified through USA Volleyball, as well as and Gold Medal Squared certified.

Trent Johnson


Trent joins East Bay Volleyball Academy after recently landing in Northern California this year from Orlando, Florida.  Trent graduated earlier this year from the University of Central Florida where he spent time both playing and coaching youth Volleyball at Orlando Volleyball Academy.  Helping young players work through the challenges of learning the sport is what Trent enjoys most about coaching.  He is an avid photographer, as well, so we are looking forward to some great action shots from the upcoming season!   

Katie Curtin,

Boys 14-2s Head Coach

As a player, Katie was a standout Middle Blocker for Castro Valley High School. She started playing volleyball at age 9, and hasn't put down a volleyball since! As the current Amador Valley High School Freshman Girls Coach, Katie is coming off a very successful season and is looking forward to continuing that success into her first season at East Bay! To help her players grow with confidence and ability is why she loves to coach.  Katie is very competitive, and hopes that spirit can rub off on her girls this upcoming club season.   

Alyssa Didio,

2015 Coach of the Year

Alyssa has played and loved volleyball since she was 12 years old.  A graduate of Cal High, she was their starting Varsity setter for 3 years,

while also playing 

competitively with her youth Club team.  Alyssa went on to play Women's Club Volleyball for Fresno State University. As a coach, Alyssa brings 10 years coaching and playing experience to players of all ages.  Most important, she has a passion for working with and teaching volleyball for younger players.  Alyssa has recently graduated with a degree in Speech Pathology from Fresno State!  


Sean Carey,

Boys 18-1s Head Coach

Sean graduated from Antioch High School, where he then went on to become a 3 time 1st Team Big Ten Player at Michigan State University, as well as a 1st Team Midwest Intercollegiate Volleyball Association player.  Add 2 seasons on the MPVA Pro Beach Tour, as well as 30 years overall experience, and players benefit!  Sean has coached at Antioch, Liberty, and Freedom High Schools, as well as McKlintock High School in Arizona.  He also has several years club coaching experience.  His primary goal:  Show his players how to fall in love with the game!

Cassie Carino,

Girls 13-1s Head Coach

As a player, Cassie played for Amador Valley High School, and also played Club Volleyball locally in the Tri-Valley area. She attended Loyola Marymount University where she competed for their Women's Club Volleyball Team. Cassie is currently a setter for Ohlone College in Fremont where she is entering her second season. She has a great passion for the game and truly enjoys teaching kids in a fun way! Having grown up in a Volleyball household, its no wonder she's loved 

Volleyball her entire life!  

Katherine Orrell,


With 10 years playing and coaching experience, Katherine joins the East Bay Volleyball Academy coaching staff with an enthusiasm to create a positive and fun environment for her players and teams.  A graduate of Granada High School in Livermore, Katherine was a standout Libero and Outside Hitter for both her High School and Club Teams.  Her main goal for this club season is to have each and every player look back on their season having grown a true love of the game!  We are truly fortunate to have Katherine on our Staff! 

Steve Hieta,

Boys 18-1s Asst. Coach

With over 25 years of volleyball experience, Steve brings a passion for teaching fundamentals, technique, and an understanding of the game through positive coaching. A graduate of College Park High School, he continued his playing career at BYU, and then in Finland. Steve has coached both at the High School level for De La Salle, as well as at the Club level. Having been coached by some of the top coaches in the sport, he shares that experience with his players and fellow coaches.  Steve is Impact Certified through USA Volleyball.

Zahira Aziz,


With 30 years experience, Zahira knows the hard work and dedication it takes to become a successful athlete, but also knows the importance of building self-esteem and character in our youth!  As a three sport athlete in high school, she accepted a scholarship to play NCAA Division 1 basketball for the University of New Mexico. After college she quickly returned back to the sport she loves, Volleyball!  Zahira has been coaching and playing ever since, and loves the positive influence sports has on kids!  Welcome to East Bay, Zahira!  

Andrew Gealy,


Andrew Gaely joins East Bay in his first season with an enthusiasm to make a huge impact on his players! Andrew had a successful Collegiate volleyball career at the University of California, and has been a standout member of the Men's Professional team, Nor Cal Wilfire, for two seasons now.  Our East Bay 17s are lucky to have Andrew as a part of their coaching staff this upcoming season. Origianlly from San Luis Obispo, Andrew now calls Northern California and East Bay Volleyball Academy his home!
