Katie Curtin

As a player, Katie was a standout Middle Blocker for Castro Valley High School. She started playing volleyball at age 9, and hasn't put down a volleyball since! Katie is entering her 2nd club season with East Bay and is looking forward to continuing her success this upcoming season! Katie is very competitive, and hopes that spirit can rub off on her girls this upcoming club season. To help her players grow with confidence and playing ability is the number one reason Katie loves to coach Volleyball. Gary Reznick 

Academy Director

Gary has been playing and teaching volleyball for over 30 years.  He has competed both at the NCAA Division 1 level, as well as Internationally.  As a player, he has been taught by some of the best teachers of the sport, and brings that experience to his craft and to his Camps, Clinics, and Teams.  Positive Coaching and Instilling Confidence in his players exemplify his approach.  Most important, as Academy Director, he ensures that each and every Coach and Trainer share his positive and encouraging energy when teaching.   

Savannah Simonds

With 7 Years combined playing and coaching experience, Savannah is entering her second year with East Bay Volleyball Academy.  Savannah competed for both East Bay and Livermore High School as an Outside Hitter before moving on to play in college.  Savannah finds inspiration from the kids she coaches and hopes to inspire them to become college athletes, as well.  Savannah's positivity is infectious.  East Bay is fortunate to have her as a role model for so many of our young players.  Welcome back for Season 2, Sav!

Allison Doerpinghaus 

Coach

After a successful NCAA Division I volleyball career, Allison is entering her first season at East Bay Volleyball Academy with excitement and a desire to help her players learn and grow.  As a Middle Blocker, Allison enjoyed 2 years at Eastern Washington University, and 2 years at Houston Baptist University. She attributes her success to her youth coaches that were patient with her as she learned the game, which did not come easy for her, and wants to pay that gift forward to her athletes.  Hard work paid off for Allison, and East Bay is lucky to have her!           

Steve Hieta 

Coach

With over 25 years of volleyball experience, Steve brings a passion for teaching fundamentals, technique, and an understanding of the game through positive coaching. A graduate of College Park High School, he continued his playing career at BYU, and then in Finland. Steve has coached both at the High School level for De La Salle, as well as at the Club level. Having been coached by some of the top coaches in the sport, he shares that experience with his players and fellow coaches.  Steve is Impact Certified through USA Volleyball.            

Katie Souza, Girls 16-1s & 14/13s Head Coach

As a three year standout setter for East Bay Volleyball Academy, Katie went on to play at Ohlone College where she was honored as Female Athlete of the Year in 2019!  As Coach of the Year for East Bay last season, Katie has grown a love of coaching and teaching the game to our athletes.  Katie is back again this year for her fourth season of coaching.  Both her positive attitude and desire to compete are a good mix for our players to emulate both on and off the court.  Her team couldn't ask for a better role model!  Welcome back, Souza!

Danielle Carter 

Coach

With 13 years of combined coaching and playing experience, Danielle is entering her 5th Season at East Bay Volleyball Academy!  She has a true passion for teaching, and is currently a Pre-School Teacher at Quarry Lane.  As a player, Danielle was a standout Setter and Outside Hitter with her Club and Livermore High School. As a coach, she wants nothing more than to help young athletes better themselves both on the court, as well as off!  Welcome back, Danielle!  Players are fortunate to have you leading them!

Zahira Aziz 

Girls 15-1s Co-Coach

With 30 years experience, Zahira knows the hard work and dedication it takes to become a successful athlete, but also knows the importance of building self-esteem and character in our youth!  As a three sport athlete in high school, she accepted a scholarship to play NCAA Division 1 basketball for the University of New Mexico. After college she quickly returned back to the sport she loves, Volleyball!  Zahira is returning to East Bay for her 5th Season and loves the positive influence volleyball has on our young athletes!  Welcome back, Coach Z!  

​​Daniel Delgado, Girls 12-1 & 16/15 Asst. Coach

A native of Southern California, Daniel is currently attending Cal State East Bay and a Pre-Med major.  As a two sport competitive athlete in both Soccer and Volleyball, Daniel finds joy in teaching young athletes of all ages.  Although he played soccer collegiately, volleyball has captured Daniel's desire to coach.  His energy in the gym is one of his biggest gifts and our 12s will be motivated to bring the same energy to their practices and tournaments.  East Bay welcomes Daniel to our family and look forward to seeing him continue to have a great impact on our players.

Combine over 30 years coaching and playing experience with 10 years on Finland's Jr. & Sr. National Teams, 120 caps for her country, a successful professional career in Europe, induction into BYU's Hall of Fame, two NCAA All-American honors, two WAC Player of the Year awards, 4 consecutive NCS titles coaching for De La Salle, several years of Club coaching experience, and a genuine love and respect for teaching the game of Volleyball to our youth, and you get Tea Hieta, humbly growing the game! 

​​Savanna Jurkovic 

Girls 17-1s Head Coach

Entering her 2nd season at East Bay Volleyball Academy, Savanna brings a wealth of playing and coaching experience to the club. With 8 top 10 finishes at AAU and USAV Nationals, including 3 Silver and 2 Bronze Medals, Savannah went on to have a stellar College career as a Setter at University of Pikeville in Kentucky.  Savanna wants to teach, inspire, and lead the girls she coaches.  Our top 17s team is in great hands with Savanna.  Welcome back for your second year at East Bay.  We are incredibly lucky to have you!

Marilena Lamp 

Coach

With 18 years playing and coaching experience, Marilena brings a desire to "pay forward"  the great coaching she's received.  As a four-year setter for Santa Clara University's Women's Club Team, Marilena lead her team to a 5th place finish at Club National Championships in 2007.  She has been Captain for each and every team on which she has played, and brings that same leadership skill to coaching. With several years club coaching experience in Southern California, Marilena is a great asset to our East Bay coaching staff!

Niranjan Sekhar

With over 25 years experience as a player, coach, and official, East Bay is extremely fortunate to have Niranjan on our team!  Niranjan played and coached collegiately in Austrailia where he also has the distinction of officiating the Men's Gold Medal Match in the 2000 Sydney Olympics.  From there he moved on to play professionally in Italy before landing here in the US. Niranjan is passionate about sharing his knowledge and experience with his players. Welcome to year three with EBVA, Niranjan!

As a standout player at Mountain House High School and at East Bay Volleyball Academy, Jordynn has gone on to play collegiately as an Opposite and Middle.  Entering her second season of coaching at East Bay, her players will have a great role model to emulate in their quest for excellence both on and off the court.  In her last season at East Bay, Jordynn won our Academy Award which is awarded to the player that best emulates the values of our club both on and off the court.  Welcome back for another great season at East Bay, Jordynn!

As a standout player at Dougherty Valley High School, Alex was a two time 1st Team All-League Middle Blocker.  He then went on to play competitive club volleyball at the University of San Diego as an Outside Hitter.  Earning a BS in Mechanical Engineering, Alex has found his way to Lawrence Livermore National Labratory.  As a first year coach at East Bay, Alex is looking forward to passing on his knowledge and seeing his players develop to the advanced levels of the game.  Welcome to East Bay, Alex!   

​​Rachel Dayton, Girls 14-1 & 15-2 Asst. Coach

Coach Rachel is entering her 2nd Season with East Bay Volleyball Academy.  As a player, Rachel attended both Kimball High School and Amador Valley High School where she played both Outside Hitter and Setter.  After High School, Rachel has gone on to play collegiately as a Setter and continues to have a bright playing future ahead of her!  Rachel wants nothing more than to be a role model for her players and watch them set and reach their goals on the court.  Her positive attitude is also a difference maker.  Welcome, Rachel!
